Out With The Old Skin, In With The New Skin!

You’ve probably heard your esthetician talk about peel season all summer long. In NYC, peel season typically starts in the fall, because the temperatures are cooler and we spend less time in the sun.

A Chemical Peel is a means of exfoliating the skin by breaking down the intercellular glue that holds together dead skin cells. This “shedding” of dead skin in turn speeds up the CTR, or cell turnover rate, bringing new skin to the surface at a faster rate.

Our peels include enzymatic and superficial, this means you will experience little to no shedding. When skin is prepped and healthy, less peeling is expected, and that’s okay! If you do experience some visual flaking or shedding of the skin, it will begin 1-2 days after your treatment and can last about 2-4 days. The amount of visual flaking is not indicative of your end results.

As a disclaimer, peels should not be used on pregnant or nursing clients.

Let's talk all about peels.

Peels treat a range of skin concerns.

Minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Treat uneven texture, dehydration and redness.

Increase collagen production.

Treat and prevents acne.

Brighten acne scarring, hyperpigmentation

Minimize the appearance of larger pores.

Clear and calm blemish prone skin.

All of IMAGE Skincare peels are in an organic aloe vera gel base.

Aloe vera has over 20 skin nourishing minerals that include zinc, iron and calcium. As well as vitamins, fatty acids and amino acids. These specific properties soothe skin irritations, provide antioxidants and reduce the appearance of redness.

All of IMAGE Skincare our peels contain plant derived stem cell technology.

Research on stem cells has shown that they are packed with antioxidants to help decrease inflammation, inhibit melanin production (AKA; minimize dark spots and hyperpigmentation), soothe irritated skin while combating and fighting chronological and photo-aging.

How you prep your skin for your peel and take care of your skin after you treatment, will determine your results.

Pre-Treatment Care:

  • Discontinue any exfoliating with alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), beta hydroxy acids (BHA) and benzoyl peroxide for at least 72 hours, and use of all topical prescriptions or any products containing Retinol or Vitamin for at least 1 week. Using these products too close to your treatment may compromise the healing of your skin. For those with facial hair, we recommend not to shave the same day as your service.

  • Avoid waxing, electrolysis, depilatory creams, and laser hair removal treatments. These services can leave the skin super sensitive and cause a reaction.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure (indoor and outdoor)

  • Do not receive Botox or dermal fillers. It is never recommended to receive any injectable services too close to any facial treatment. An injectable service less than 2 weeks before your treatment can cause increased swelling, bruising and even lead to product migration.

Post-Treatment Care:

After receiving your peel, do not use any skincare products that have not been approved by your licensed esthetician or physician. Your treatment is always completed with IMAGE products that are safe to be left on your skin for the evening.

To avoid any injury to the skin post treatment, we recommend you DO NOT:

  • Use products with active ingredients (Vitamin c, AHAs, BHAs), exfoliating or retinoids for 5-7 days. This will help avoid any complications and over drying of the skin. Only use gentle cream/gel skincare products with little no fragrance and lots of SPF!

  • Peel, pick, scrape or abrade the skin. This can lead to hyperpigmentation and scarring.

  • Use tanning beds or sunbathe. Peels increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Exposure to UV rays can cause hyper-pigmentation, freckling and sun damage

  • Have any facial hair removal services including; facial waxing, electrolysis, laser hair removal, thread or use depilatory products for at least 5 days

  • Have another treatment immediately after. This includes any facial treatment, facial laser service or aesthetic injectables.

A single treatment is great, but a series is even better. For best results, a series of 6-8 peels at 2-4 week intervals is suggested. Using the correct home care routine to keep the results and corrections will contribute to the transformation of your skin.
