The Basics
What is Microdermabrasion?
Our Wet Diamond Microdermabrasion is an aggressive, non-invasive form of exfoliation and resurfacing treatment. This treatment is combined with the hydrating benefits of a HydraFacial.
Microdermabrasion, or also known as Microderm, works by using fine-grit diamond granules to essentially “buff” the outer layer of the skin to aid in increasing circulation. Depending on your skin, you’ll get either a coarser or finer diamond grit setting based on your esthetician's analysis of your skin.
There are two types of Microdermabrasion treatments available on the market. Normally, you’ll find either “Crystal Microderm” or “Diamond Microderm” treatments available at your local spa or skin studio.
The difference?
Crystal Microdermabrasion involves blasting aluminum oxide crystals into the skin, which was once thought to be the better choice for exfoliation. However, because of the irregular shape of the crystals, they can be too abrasive and worsen the condition of the skin. This has proven to be a less reliable form of microdermabrasion over time.
Diamond Microdermabrasion uses a more accurate way of exfoliation thanks to the use of diamonds instead of crystals. This can more accurately exfoliate hard to reach places and have proven to be safer and more precise. The wet diamond tip allows for the HydraFacial treatment super serums to pass through the tip with combined suction and hydration.
Crystal devices are slowly beginning to phase out, while diamond devices are becoming the standard. We perform Diamond Microdermabrasion treatments here at our Brooklyn location in New York.

How is Microdermabrasion Done?
CLEANSE + PEEL
Using our first skin solution, ACTIV-4, and our fine grit wet-diamond tip, we begin to reveal a new layer of skin by using a mechanical form of exfoliation to buff the outer layer of the skin. This step helps remove dead surface cells to deeply cleanse, exfoliate and soften the sebum for extractions. For our light peel, we use GLYSAL, which is a gentle chemical exfoliation of 7.5% glycolic and 2 % salicylic acid. Glycolic acid brightens and hydrates, while salicylic acid softens the sebum and eliminates oil.
EXTRACT + HYDRATE
Using the teal HydroPeel tip and BETA-HD, to help dislodge debris from the pores with painless suction and nourish the skin with intense moisture. BETA-HD is a multi-action skin solution formulated for congested skin consisting of salicylic acid to exfoliate, honey extract to hydrate and spiraea ulmaria flower extract to calm and soothe.
FUSE + PROTECT
The last and final step, we use ANTIOX+ and the clear HydroPeel tip. ANTIOX+ is an advanced antioxidant skin solution enriched with peptides and hyaluronic acid for all skin types. Here, we slowly saturate the skin’s surface with antioxidants like red algae to even the skin tone and green tea extract, copper peptides and hyaluronic acid to combat fine lines and wrinkles and improve hydration to maximize your glow.

Is Microdermabrasion Safe?
Overall, Microdermabrasion is a safe treatment, as long as it is performed by a licensed and experienced esthetician. All of our estheticians have their New York State Esthetic License and have been trained and certified.
If performed by someone inexperienced or with an at-home device, the suction may be too strong. If so, there is a risk for suction marks or bruises left on the face which may cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
What to expect post-treatment
Generally, clients go about their day as normal. Ones with more sensitive skin may be flushed or blotchy for up to 24 hours. Skin post Microdermabrasion is typically hydrated and glowing, with a more even complexion immediately after treatment. We recommend having a Microdermabrasion treatment 48-72 hours prior to an event. Skin dryness may occur post-treatment due to aggressive exfoliation.

"Had a great facial here. Felt like it was a super welcoming and calming environment- not stuffy or judgmental, which I've found at other Brooklyn spas. My Esthetician was super knowledgeable and gave me some good tips to optimize my existing skincare routine. I love the jelly masks and my skin felt so good when I left. Will def be back!"

"First time getting a professional facial done and absolutely loved it!! I can already see the difference in my face. I'm definitely recommending this place to family and friends."

"Absolutely wonderful facial! Chateau Glow is a beautiful and modern yet inviting space (it's also pristine clean)! The most important part is the facial itself - I felt that I'm in good hands as soon as I met my esthetician. She is super knowledgable, she has asked a bunch of thorough questions to understand my needs as well as my skin issues and tailored the facial to my needs."
